Penny For Your Thought: Facebook vs Valentines

It is funny how Valentines became a big deal and one factor that shares a big chunk of influence are Social media and Commercialism.

Social Media :
One Valentine's monring you woke up, for you it is just typical day nothing special setting your mind that this is just those days that would pass and doing your daily weekend routine.. then you browse over your facebook or instagram feeds, then you suddenly realize that you are in a relationship too while seeing all your your girl friends  been bragging the roses, chocolates, and gifts they received,  you start to question, "How come I am not getting anything, is my boyfriend/husband/partner does not love me that much?".  Then as a typical girl that you are, you will be treating this immarturely and your approach of course it with a killer silent treatment (more often than not!).  Then your mindset that this day should be just typical suddenly changed and immediately changed your mood based on what you see from your feeds...sounds familiar right?!!

Ladies, I know how hard it is not to compare, and I also know how important flowers, chocolates or stuff toys are to us, but to save the day for not ruining it, if it could help not to check your news feeds for Valentine's Day (or not just Valentine's Day) then do it.  What is most important is what is happening between you and your partner more than the gifts (Ok so hard to believe, almost all of us are hopeless romantic!) at least make yourself feel good that you are in the right relationship which is more mature.

Commercialism:
When I was still young, I always believe that we celebrate Valentines in February since this is the month where we do not celebrate any occasion due to this establishments malls, restaurants and the like need to come up with something for their business earnings then they invented Valentines Day( tadah!). I asked myself why just celebrate love in one day when you can do it everyday?  Then blame it to commercialism. tsk tsk!!!

On a different note, while having conversation with our pre teen daughter, she has number of suitors and none of them she entertained, she knows she is still too young for that, but number of guys gave her roses, chocolates and letters last Valentines, she said that next time when someone would like to give her flowers she would reject it trade it with a grocery package for her family to enjoy (sound more like a relief goods for me), she wants to be practical.  I advised her never refuse something you can never give yourself.  I mean can you give yourself a love letter (oh! so conceited!), can you buy yourself flowers (nah, so frustrated!) so when a guy wants to give you flowers, write you a poem -- never think it is too tacky, because we've of age when people hardly writes and put effort to girls, this age when all girls seems to be just a chat away. Enjoy the grand treatment while you have them...
